NJ.com: What’s old is new again with Shakespeare-At’s radio series

By David Mosca

Jersey City’s classical theater, Shakespeare-At, is turning back time as the company prepares a new ongoing project during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since large gatherings are still a no-go during this time, Shakespeare-At is bringing the theater to you in radio format with Shakespeare@ Home, beginning July 1.

Shakespeare@ Home is an homage to the days of serialized radio dramas of the 1930s and 40s. The Jersey City theater is resurrecting this tradition with the classic works of one of the worlds most revered playwrights. The first radio production will be Richard II.

Richard II will be presented in three weekly episodes. The play is based on the reign of King Richard II, who ruled from 1377-1399, and focuses on his downfall and overthrow by the opposing forces of the banished Henry Bolingbroke, who takes the throne to become Henry IV. This work by Shakespeare was believed to have been written in around 1595.

The event is free to listen. For more information, visit shakespeare-At.org to download and listen to the show.
